Donorโs Gift Connects Habitat from ANF to Allegheny River |
Randall Gustafson grew up along the Allegheny River in Warren County, where his father, a lumberman and community leader, taught him to fish, care for the regionโs heritage and respect natureโ-values Randall passed along to his own children. The forested land is now permanently protected thanks to a conservation easement donation to the Conservancy from Randall on 28 acres of his forested property in Pleasant and Watson townships โ one of four properties we protected in December!
With 2,200 feet of frontage adjacent to the Allegheny National Forest on the Allegheny River, Pennsylvaniaโs 2024 River of the Year, the land provides habitat connectivity for aquatic and terrestrial wildlife from the ANF to the river.
Stay tuned to WPCโs Facebook,
LinkedIn and
Instagram pages and our
website for news about other recent land conservation projects that protect open space, waterways, forests and wildlife. For example, we recently protected more land to expand Ohiopyle State Park and increased WPCโs wild and beautiful Bear Run Nature Reserve by 45 acres!

Volunteer to Steward Trees |
Do you love being outdoors in all seasons? We need dedicated volunteers to check on streamside trees our staff and volunteers recently planted in rural areas. Riparian trees filter pollutants, help prevent streambank erosion and provide habitat! Visit a site to ensure the tree tubes, stakes and young trees are sturdy, do light weeding and update staff on treesโ health. Read more in a recent Conserve.
To volunteer in Armstrong, Erie, Forest, Indiana, Jefferson, Potter or Venango county, contact Monica Lee at 724-471-7202 ext. 5111 or mlee@paconserve.org. |
